Stand: IV. Valor (Brass/Woodwind Choir)

This fourth movement of Stand: A Symphony for Jazz Orchestra has been adapted to accommodate the needs of an SSAATTBB Brass or Woodwind Choir. 2012 marks the 150th anniversary of "Taps." Stand: Mvmt IV. Valor opens with the solo bugle call. In its premiere as a piece of performance art, this signaled The Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon to begin its drill sequence. This arrangement offers an alternative for a concert setting which employs a percussion and a moment of silence before a bittersweet harmonized reprise at its close. This arrangement is provided in a concert score. The short harmonization should be transposed according to your own instrumentation. I strongly recommend assigning the short transposition task as an assignment for high school and college level instrumentalists. Transposed parts would raise the price considerably. This will offer a moving and patriotic opening or closing for performances on National Holidays such as Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Keep it on hand!
