  1. Don't Explain

From the recording Don't Explain

This arrangement was commissioned jointly by The University of South Florida's Center for Jazz Composition and Nnenna Freelon for its Gala Inaugural Celebrations in Tampa and St. Petersburg, FL, in April 2005. It was premiered under my baton featuring Ms. Freelon with Chuck Owen's "Jazz Surge." The vocal arrangement for mezzo soprano voice also features a tenor solo.

This clip from an Anita Brown Jazz Orchestra rehearsal was done as a reference track for Frank Foster's Loud Minority Big Band under the direction of Cecil Bridgewater in preparation of Ms. Freelon's performance of this selection at The Jazz Foundation of America's gala fundraiser, "A Great Night In Harlem" at New York's Apollo Theater. See photos in PHOTO gallery.

An altered version is available as a feature for alto sax.

The arrangement is playable for college level ensembles and runs about six and a half minutes.

Score & parts available for both versions at PRODUCTS page.
