If you are a musician, composer/arranger, visual artist, dancer or other kidnd of artist who has been working in your field for years and would like to add "Teaching Artist" to your arsenal, or would like to broaden your understanding of what schools look for and would be impressed with, please fill out this form so that I can send you information about remote classes I'm planning.
I will discuss how to write basic to detailed lesson plans, what schools are looking to achieve, where to find helpful information, behavioral and motivational stuff, and I'll share the jargon that will help you feel like you're on the same page with your cooperating teachers or to present your material in a clear, methodical way. Participants will be able to ask questions about your specific situations.
I am a permanently certified teacher of Music K-12 in New York State and have previously been certified in New Hampshire and Connecticut (and I unfortunately let both those credentials lapse…not smart). I have taught every course content in K-12 Music in public, parochial and independent schools since 1983. I left my contracted teaching post to pursue my personal artistic calling as a composer/conductor but have always kept my hand in the business. I am once again in the trenches with some very cool middle school kids. In addition I have been a guest clinician at the elementary, middle school, high school and college levels, have authored and kid-tested curricula in Music Composition for elementary and secondary ensemble classes in addition to General Music classes.
I would love to talk about this with a group of artists looking to broaden their income options without going to get a degree in education. Let me be your cliff notes!
I look forward to seeing you online!
Best,
Anita
